First Professor of Anatomy and Surgery in America (1765). With Dr. John Morgan, responsible for establishing the School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania (1765). First teacher of Obstetrics in Ameria and inaugurated the first attempt to establish a lying-in hostpital. Director-General of the Military Hospital and Physician-in-Chief of the American Army (1777-1781).
