About the Binding

Front cover of Galen's works

Anytime I look at the beautiful panel binding with the portrait of the Holy Roman Emperor Rudolph II in center, surrounded by heads in medallions, the wild storyline forms in my head. Could this book have been bound for the emperor’s library collection? Could it have belonged to any of his physicians? Rudolph II was the patron of natural philosophers and surrounded himself with scholars interested in alchemy and astronomy. Could Prague have been the place where Cl. Galeni pergameni omnia crossed paths with Tadeáš Hájek or Tycho Brache?
